Everyone’s life right now is in a state of flux. With so many changes coming to 2020 fast and furiously, we’ve had to adapt to something new on an almost weekly basis. While change can definitely be a catalyst for growth, there are times when it can be difficult to see through the noise of the world around us and spot the potential springboards.

There are a few ways to sort through the distractions. Most of these strategies are surprisingly simple, and once you put them in place, will help ground you, and keep you moving towards the things that are most important to you.

  • Find a guide for each area of your life.

    • Starting with my favorite: fitness. Find a Coach who will take the time to get to know you and actually listen to your goals and the Why behind them. A great Coach will give you simple steps AND hold you accountable to making those steps happen. One day, one week at a time and the next thing you know, you are three months healthier. Just showing up to a class, at any gym, is not enough. You need the relationships and accountability.

    • The same goes for your nutrition. If you want to improve it, the first step is getting direction from someone who can streamline your nutrition into easy steps. There are a million “best diet ever!” plans out there. Most are far too complicated and often offer only short-term results…for a hefty price tag. The best nutrition plans are the simplest, and far more affordable than the gimmicks..

    • Professionally, find a mentor. Having someone you can bounce ideas off of and help you through difficult decisions is incredibly useful. Good mentors can guide you towards your goals one step at a time and help you filter through things that are just stealing your valuable time. There are mentors in almost every area of expertise, so find one that will help you grow in an area you haven’t worked on before.

    • Personally, find someone who can mentor you through whatever stage of life you are in. If you’re married and growing your family, find someone who has been there, learned that. Ask them for their advice. Ask about the mistakes they’ve made and the areas they were able to excel in and how that excellence came about. If you’re single, find someone who has been able to focus and accomplish their goals in that season of life. The experiences of others can help us avoid devastating mistakes and setbacks, as well as teach us how to achieve our goals in a disciplined, yet balanced way..

For many, trusting the advice of another person takes a level of humility and willingness to listen and learn.

We’re all wrong more often than we’d like to admit, but true growth comes from opening up and letting others help.

Find a mentor or coach in one of the areas above and email me about it - I’d love to hear your experience!
