Long time Ambassador, Christy Falato, started at CrossFit 925 almost 9 years ago. We’re lucky to have her as part of our community and to represent 925 well!

I started my CrossFit journey in June 2011. My Dad was suffering from Dementia and I did not want my own children to have to see me suffer like that. I decided I needed to be healthier for my family. I had enjoyed working out when I was younger – just out of college and starting my career – however, having small children made it difficult for me to get back into exercising. I felt that I didn’t have the time or the energy after taking care of my family and helping to take care of my parents. I didn’t realize, at the time, that exercising would help me have more energy to take care of my family, instead of feeling exhausted all the time. I realize now that you need to “make time” for the important things in life, like exercising and eating healthy, in order to enjoy life to the fullest. Prior to starting CrossFit, I had begun to walk/jog for about an hour every morning. I had lost some weight, but I knew I needed something more. When I started CrossFit, I thought I was in pretty good shape, but quickly learned, I needed much more. I had to begin by using the PVC pipe for my “bar/weights.” I was afraid to do a box jump to a 12 inch box, I did not like rowing at all. (Coach Ben cured me of that. Lol!) I still have my challenges – wall balls – yikes!! Now this fairly new thing called an “assault bike” – I’m sure I’ll grow to love this, too! I have grown so much over the last eight years. CrossFit has helped me to become healthier but also more confident in my everyday life. I can carry the 40 pound bags of salt from HEB without any help. My son and I were able to move large items to the curb for our neighborhood “bulk trach pick up” without any other help; I’m talking a refrigerator, and a 72” TV (old bulky one). I could not have done this prior to CrossFit. I’ve even jumped out of a perfectly good airplane – something I probably never would have had the confidence to do before CrossFit. Although, I am a Masters Athlete (56 years old – but the Coaches don’t let you use that as an excuse – haha), I still feel that I am in the best shape of my life. I’ve been able to enjoy working out with my daughter who is 24 years old. That is the beauty of CrossFit – workouts can be tailored to each person’s fitness levels. CrossFit 925 has the best Coaches that truly care about your fitness/health goals. They get to know each of our athlete’s strengths and weaknesses, so that they know what we need to work on physically, mentally, and nutrition wise, as well. Coach Ben and Diana, along with the other Coaches, have created such a warm and welcoming community. I always say that the 5:15 am class is my “happy hour.” It’s a great way to start my day! On the rare occasion that I have missed, I have quickly gotten a text from Coach Ben asking if I’m ok. (Where else can you get that type of caring?) As an Ambassador for CrossFit 925, I want to be welcoming and encouraging. I want to share that this fitness journey is unique for all of us and that CrossFit 925 is a great place to begin this journey no matter what level of an athlete. The Coaches are knowledgeable and caring and know how to keep our development moving forward. We are all a work-in-progress. This community that we have is Family and a great place to be, where we are encouraging and excited for each athletes successes – whether small or big!!
