Now that we know chocolate has the potential to benefit our immune system, how do we make sure we’re consuming the best options?

First priority: Choose dark. The darker the chocolate, the more nutrients you’ll receive from the actual cocoa. Fun fact: Dark chocolate is a great source of magnesium, iron, and zinc. (1)

Next, choose chocolate with the best quality ingredients...For example: coconut sugar instead of normal cane sugar, no dairy, and organic cocoa sources. Here are some good options:

Another option is to create your own chocolate. Purchase cacao (Navitas is a great brand) or cocoa powder and add in ingredients like raw local honey, cinnamon, and nut butter. Here’s a recipe example.
