Growing up in a large and active family, I have always had a passion for challenging myself physically and exploring new means in which to do so. I played a variety of sports growing up and continued to test myself through college by running Division I mid-distance track and cross-country.

In the summer of 2014, my stepdad dragged me into his CrossFit box where I would join him in the workout of the day. In typical CrossFit fashion, he wouldn’t stop talking about this place that was “more than a gym.” Curious and up for a challenge, I had to see what this was about. At the peak of my running career, I didn’t think I could be more fit and approached the workout guns hot. Doing the workout that day brought me soreness in body parts I never knew I possessed, and a few realizations. First, there were numerous holes in my fitness. I was not in the shape I thought I was. Second, this place that encourages you to challenge yourself and address your weaknesses head-on was indeed more than a gym. After that day, I was hooked. I took on the title of intern and cleaned bathrooms in exchange for workouts and knowledge! Any spare time I had was spent at the gym either working out or learning and in that time, I grew in strength and passion as both an athlete and a person.

I received my Level 1 certification and started coaching CrossFit in November of 2014. To me, there are few things more special than witnessing a person achieve a goal. Whether it is performing a personal best in the back squat or running 200 meters without stopping, accomplishments like this happen every day in a CrossFit gym and they are typically celebrated with heart-felt smiles, cheers, and high fives. It is a place where no goal is more important than the next and people are challenged to be better, in some way, every day. I love coaching CrossFit because it allows me the pleasure of cultivating and then celebrating the success of others that have allowed me to be a part of their journey.

CrossFit 925 provides an opportunity to be surrounded by a group of like-minded people who strive for excellence not only in fitness, but in their every-day lives as family members, friends, gym-mates, and members of the community. Its members and staff relentlessly support each other in their goals and lift one another up with enthusiastic encouragement. As I continue to grow as an athlete and coach, I believe it is truly a great place to be.
